Chapter Text
"I guess I'll just wait here for more challengers. Wonder who it'll be this time."
It was another day of fighting for DXL - as always. That wasn't a problem. The problem was that it was another day where nobody was arriving to fight. After years of duels against others, he was running out of competition simply because he had fought everyone - and it was disappointing. On the horizon, though, a new foe appeared...
And they looked exactly like him.
"Woah, a mirror match? This might be tough…but I'm definitely stronger than myself!"
That made no sense, but it's not like he knew.
For a moment, they stared each other down. The second DXL looked exactly as the first. Slowly, the doppelganger
“...But alas, you haven't heard of GREEN HUMOR, have you?”
It was none other...than GREEN DXL. Looked exactly like him, but Green. Somehow not the weirdest opponent he's seen.
"I don't need Green Humor when I have ORANGE ATTACKS!"
Blows were traded and damage was dealt (though it was hard to track. Eventually, DXL was sent flying into a set of blocks. Typical for the Dashlands to have random level structures. But on top of this one was...DXL. Again. But this time, not green. And holding a small cube glowing with orange energy on one side, with a bag of popcorn on the other.
"...You're not green enough to be my opponent," the original (?) DXL bluntly commented.
"Oh! Uh...sorry. Keep going." The other one looked down with barely any embarrassment.
"...wait, you're here to WATCH my fights? That means I have an audience! Its time to up my game!"
"...Yeah...oh yeah. "
The other DXL with the popcorn and cube had been watching for a while, actually. For many fights before. Mostly out of boredom. Watching another DXL and some random character brawl it out with mostly pre-baked animations wasn't always interesting. But when you can do anything, you might as well do everything.
He looked down to the cube. It had been a while since he activated Creative Mode by using it as a crafting table to build a wooden door. Of course, that project never got finished so he had no idea how long. Since then, he had skipped across universes to have a whole Cool Epic Funny Multiverse Series. Which also never got finished, but at least two parts of it were out there, so it wasn't all for nothing. After all that though, he just wanted to sit down and watch something rather than do it. Making Vermont real got old quickly.
"...Jeez, none of that is going to make sense," he mused out loud. "Whatever. All that matters is I have a reality-warping cube and am watching a fight collab in person. "
A reality-warping cube though...that was weird. It was originally a Minecraft Crafting Table, after all, but over time it just became a normal cube. Was that a sign of something?
His thoughts were cut off by a thunderous boom in the distance, near the two DXL brawlers. The sky opened up as DXL spit out his popcorn in shock.
DXL (the green one) was already deep into the fight. Blow after blow and laser beam after laser beam was traded. It felt like the fight could go on forever, but in an instant, it grinded to a stop as a giant hand reached out from the sky.
"...That's a cool special move," was all he could say. "It'd be better if it were green..."
"Uh...that's not me. "
The hand immediately reached down and grabbed Green DXL, pulling him straight into an outside space.
The other DXL, the one who started this fight, looked up at the looming figure. Lifeless eyes and a static face stared back down at him. It had taken the previous challenger in an instant.
No matter. He never backed down from a fight.
"You wanna come in here and hijack my latest battle, huh? Well come on!" DXL pointed his dagger directly at the entity. "You'll get a lot more than just green from me!"
Another hand grabbed onto him immediately.
"Oh."
DXL, the third one with the cube, was struck with horror looking up at the...thing snatching the others away. When a hand reached towards him, he looked down at the cube, and was immediately a mile out of its reach.
He sighed. And then another hand appeared. Almost instinctively, he teleported away again...and was met with another hand.
"Are you KIDDING M-"
He got cut off by needing to teleport away from a hand. Again. Frustrated, he readied the cube, and looked towards the next hand approaching...and crushed it with the state of Vermont.
"Okay. That is not going to last." He was thinking out loud, and it was costing him time. "Dang it! I can’t let him get hands on this cube along with me. But I can't just leave it in the open either. I don't have the time to find out why this is happeni-"
Wait. That was it. Portals, places, and alternate DXLs. He wouldn't have time to figure out...but he knew an infinite amount of people like him who did.
"I've got it! I’ve got it." DXL grabbed the cube, focused, and looked forward. A portal opened in front of him, and he promptly tossed the cube into it as it spun wildly.
Then, a hand burst up from Vermont. DXL was pulled into an abyss.
And in his wake, as the creature took him away, a single echoing line reverberated across the now DXL-less universe...
"I LIKE MEMES."
